New Movements and Subgenres in Music Pt. 1

So guys we thought we'd do some spotlights on relatively new/ extremely new/ uber underground genre's that may have not graced your ears yet, try and explain them and give you a few tunes of each genre. To keep the music coming at you quick we've decided to split this article up into multiple parts and give you a new part each week. At this stage we dont know how many parts we'll do but for now there will deffinately be 3; Glitch Hop, Dub-Tech and UK Funky. So here's part 1;

GLITCH HOP
Only recently named and hence emerging from the shadows of standard Glitch, Glitch Hop is a genre that is essentially the twisted child of two genre's. The majority of the components that form Glitch Hop spawned from the relatively underground genre of Glitch, hence Glitch Hop reflects a majority of the aspects that make up Glitch. Essentially Glitch is very computer sound driven music that is very expermiental with the sounds used, not neccesarily dance floor worthy and usually void of most lyrics. Producers of Glitch bass their music around these three guidelines creating music in a specific way that involves many snippets and cuts of sounds joined together to make a song that usually falls in a bpm ranging anywhere from 70 to 130 bpm. Glitch Hop adopts both the method of production and the idea of using extremely expermiental noises however adds many aspects of american West-Coast Hip Hop (hence the name Glitch + Hip Hop = Glitch Hop), extracting the attitude, lyrical hooks and much more dance friendly aspects of Hip Hop. After adding all of these elements together the final aspects of a very Dubstep like bass kick layout and a structure that is relatively unique to Glitch Hop in the way the song is broken down and reassembled in different ways multiple times throughout a single track, Glitch Hop takes its final form. After a relatively shaky start as another crossbreed sub-genre of the dance scene, Glitch Hop has taken massive leaps and bounds, something that can be largely attributed to the awesome foursome known as "The Glitch Mob". Essentially pioneers of the genre and a collective that continues to be at the cutting edge of the scene, the Glitch Mob in recent times have started to pack out gigs as large as 2,500 people at a time in a club with them headlining. Since the rise of the Glitch Mob and their unique view on what Glitch Hop can be the scene has started to move forward extremely fast as artists realise the overall potential of a great new unique genre.

THE GLITCH MOB
Consiting of 4 members (edIT, Kraddy, Boreta and Ooah) the glitch mob is a collective that essentially own the Glitch Hop scene at the moment. While there is technically not any original tracks released as a song by the artist Glitch Mob, the group sticks to a system in which all remixes and live shows are under the label "The Glitch Mob" title however original tracks are released under the individual members name. While this system makes it extremely hard and confusing to track down new tracks by the group or any of its respective members it does have its advantages; for one their ep's such as their most recent "Glith Mob Unlimited" give you a sampling of all four members tracks (2 a piece) and similarily their gigs feature all 4 members on the decks at the same time mixing in their own style and all feeding off each other, a sight to behold indeed. With songs such as "Android Porn" coming from the group Glitch Hop has revealed itself as a genre that really can destroy a dance floor and take the roof off when the track been played is as well produced as the Glitch Mob's works are. Here's a few tracks and a mix from the Glitch Mob as well as a list of other Glitch Hop artists. Check the blog next week for our spot on Dub-Tech.
