104 Nights in a Year

104 Nights the Underground Sound!

Basically this blog is all about those off you who live for nothing more then the best beats of dnb, dubstep, future beat as well as the rest of the dance spectrum. We really would like if you guys would subscribe or become followers, as well as leave comments in order for us to know that people are both looking at and hopefully enjoying the blog. The concept in the name of the blog is beacause personally we only really live roughly 104 night in a year in ourselves and those are the 52 fridays and 52 saturdays in each year, where we can drink up dance and listen to all our favourite chunes on speaker rigs way beyond what we could have in our houses. Big Up! and enjoy the beats...

A Thinking Man's Game

The year of the long-player continues, with a series of new and all ready popularised artists releasing album's recently or are preparing themselves to do so 2010 has begun to solidify itself as a year to remember.
A particular trend this year has been the overwhelming amount of so called intelligent dance music (IDM), essentially artists making albums not ep's and on the whole not having much of a focus on been dance floor friendly. Electronic artists everywhere are clambouring to be seen as exactly that "artists", not just jump up firing Banger factories.
So in wake of all this recent albumage (yes that's not a real word i know) we thought we'd do a spotlight on some artists that we think need more attention for what they're doing in the music scene. For each of the 5 artists we have chosen we're going to give you a track, a mix, and a youtube video of one of their tracks. If you want to branch out musically this is for you.

SCUBA;

Over the last six months Scuba's releases on his label Hot Flush Recordings have given us a taste of things to come (Aesaunic ep released late last year) leading up to his LP Triangulations. It's neither a techno nor dubstep album. It's Scuba's vision of the two cohesively formed to create a very fresh sound that is currently sweeping the electronic dance spectrum. Triangulations must be listened to in one perfect hit, fermented and settled in the mind to truly appreciate it's brilliance. Stand out tracks 'Heavy Machinery', 'Minerals", 'So You Think Your Special' and 'Three Sided Shape'.
Fork out the cashola for this one, you won't be disappointed. Hit up Beatport after the bump.

Take note as Scuba will be down in July on the 25th at Roxanne Parlour with Support from Ras G.

NOSAJ THING;

Nosaj Thing truly is one of a kind...
A long time favourite of mine and a popular artist on the blog so far, this young LA based producer and DJ is only just starting to hit his stride.
Coming from a largely Hip Hop background it was almost strange to see Nosaj Thing so quickly take to electronic music but more so to see his amazing talent as an electronic producer.
Since his first EP "Octopus Equals" I have had my eye on him and hence thoroughly enjoyed everything he has produced.
It wasn't until 2009 however that he really jumped from bedroom producer status to his current and growing fame in the blossoming LA electronic scene. Hot on the heals of now superstar Flying Lotus' rise to fame Nosaj Thing released his first LP "Drift" showcassed his now trademark style of hollow bass kicks and their ability to accentuate each individual track as a highly emotional experience.
Since "Drift" things have only got better for Nosaj, with a series of remixes including Flying Lotus' own track "Camel" making him an in demand producer both within the LA scene and world wide.
Having just completed his second mix for BBC Radio 1 host (and blog favourite) Mary Anne Hobb's experimental music show, Nosaj is now in the limelight more then ever.
This year is sure to be Nosaj Thing's best to date as he takes his amazing live show (using a series of drum machines and samplers along with a laptop to DJ instead of decks)  on the road with yet another blog favourite The Glitch Mob on their "Drink the Sea" tour as well as preparing to release his second LP.
I highly encourage you to check out some of Nosaj Thing's other tracks and keep an ear out for news of his next LP as he continues his journey to the stars.

SABRE;

Sabre's a wandering journal was a drum and bass album based around a photographic storyboard. Dancefloor D&B this is most certainly not! The album follows the journey of a lone wanderer in a desolate and strange land. The standout is the Rockwell remix of the title tune 'A Wandering Journal".
The album consists of dark atmospheric tones, subtle rhythmically clean drums and particularly unnerving rumbles. Intentional thought provoking drum and bass.

KING MIDAS SOUND;

Soulful and pained... two words that perfectly explain this album.
King Midas Sound is the newest project from producer Kevin Martin (formerly known as The Bug) and is quite a deviation from his works under his old alias.
The idea for this new project of Martin's came from both a boredom of people expecting certain things from his Bug guise and also a deep interest in poet Roger Robinson. After completing his most recent The Bug album Martin really wanted to continue working with Robinson (who had contributed to The Bug project) on more tracks. So after a late night studio session working on a fresh track with Robinson, Martin decided an album was due as was a change of identity.
Harnessing the talents of both Robinson and vocalist Hitmoi, King Midas Sound was born and my god is it delightful. Set upon a deep swooning soundscape the album carries heavy melancholic emotion throughout each track, thanks largely to the amazing talents of Roger Robinson. His vocal poetry carries a great wait with it, in a highly emotional if not depressing manor he spins an amazing spoken word tapestry.
This album is the very definition of a long player and is deffinately something worth your time. Can't wait to see what comes next from KIng Midas Sound and what other artists Robinson decides to work with.
